ReplyDeleteWhat a splendid portrait of a martin.
Hi "Snail",
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you too.
I rather liked this shot (obviously!). The martin turned its' head to the rising sun giving beaut. lighting on its' 'face'. They're not the easiest of birds to get to grips with, but they're regulars on this fence line. They rest between bouts of low flying, catching insects for the young. I've noticed that the already flying young return to the nest 'niches' in the 100m high sandstone cliffs to be fed. They do have fantastic views looking out towards the southern ocean!
Merry Christmas and thanks for your wonderful, informative and inspiring blog. I've learnt a lot about birds from reading it and look forward to future posts!
ReplyDeleteHi Mona,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your great comments. I would have to confess that at times (frequently) I drag my feet and fail to blog pieces because it's all too much effort. My son and I had a great trip to Alice Springs back in October, and despite taking many thousands of images, have failed to even mention it!
Having a blog too brings with it a steady stream of emails requesting all sorts of information and outings, this takes time and effort and I'm sure my replies often fall short of people's expectation. A few (thankfully) even fail to send a "thank you". Something I find especially irksome!! I do post many images on my pbase site, which has proved to be increasingly popular, so I feel a little vindicated in not posting things on the blog. So an enthusiastic comment such as your's is especially welcome--thank you.
