Had my car serviced today, and was faced with doing those chores that I keep putting off to go birding. Fortunately it was a better day than forecast and rather than "waste" it, thought I'd give photographing the Little Wattlebirds that live in my garden a go. With a dearth of flying insects around in the cooler weather, the Wattlebirds have taken to searching for insects on the ground, as my first shot shows. They also spend considerable time and energy pursuing interlopers and the 2 birds pictured together were about to continue their game of chase, which continued for 20 minutes or more--what a waste of energy! They're pictured on a Banksia Integrifolia, which is putting on a great display
at the moment.
